PEMANFAATAN PUPUK HAYATI CACING TANAH UNTUK MENINGKATKAN EFISIENSI PENGELOLAAN TANAH PERTANIAN LAHAN KERING
Abstrak
Pembangunan pertanian yang lebih berorientasi pada efisiensi pemanfaatan sumberdaya alam dan aman lingkungan mendorong penyempurnaan konsep pengelolaan lahan sebagai sarana produksi pertanian. Keselarasan antara pendekatan pengelolaan lahan dengan dinamika ekosistem lahan menjadi faktor penting. Tanah lahan kering di kawasan tropika basah umumnya memiliki lapisan bawah yang padat dan miskin bahan organik, sehingga populasi organisme detritivor tanah rendah dan organisme hama penyakit bawaan tanah berkembang. Adanya fauna tanah yang dalam siklus hidupnya dapat membuat lobang dalam tanah (burrower) seperti cacing tanah akan mencegah pemadatan tanah dan meningkatkan aerasi tanah serta mencampur antara tanah dan bahan organik dari lapisan atas dan lapisan bawah. Untuk itu peluang pemanfaatan cacing tanah sebagai agen biologi untuk memperbaiki kesuburan tanah dan melestarikan produktivitas lahan kering dapat meningkatkan efisiensi pemanfaatan limbah organik, efisiensi usaha tani, pengelolaan tanah, pemupukan dan pengendalian hama penyakit.
